Nevins Beach Camping Area
Tranquil Riverfront Camping in the Burramine State Forest
Experience the serenity of the Murray River at Nevins Beach Camping Area (also known as Nevins Bend), a pristine dispersed camping location tucked away in the Burramine State Forest. Located roughly halfway between the townships of Yarrawonga and Cobram, this site offers a secluded escape for self-sufficient campers who want to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the River Murray Reserve. With its sandy river beaches, towering Red Gums, and peaceful atmosphere, it is a perfect spot for those looking to disconnect and relax.
The camping area is characterised by informal, unallocated sites scattered along the high riverbanks and near the water’s edge. Unlike the busier holiday parks, Nevins Beach offers a true “bush camping” experience. There are no marked bays or powered sites, giving you the freedom to find a spot that suits your setup, whether it be a caravan, camper trailer, or a simple swag under the stars. The river here creates a gentle bend, providing excellent opportunities for fishing, launching a kayak, or simply watching the river flow by.
As a free campsite managed by Parks Victoria, there are no facilities provided. Visitors must be fully self-contained, bringing their own toilet, water, and power. This requirement helps maintain the untouched nature of the site and ensures a quieter camping experience. Access is via unsealed forest tracks which can be navigated by 2WD in dry conditions but may require 4WD after rain.
While you may feel a world away from civilisation, Nevins Beach is conveniently located near some of the region’s best attractions. The historic Byramine Homestead is just a short drive away, offering a taste of local history and produce. For substantial supplies, dining, and entertainment, the twin towns of Yarrawonga-Mulwala are easily accessible. Whether you are an avid angler chasing Murray Cod or a family looking for a budget-friendly river holiday, Nevins Beach offers a slice of riverside paradise.
