Kiah Wilderness Camp – Pet-Friendly Riverfront Camping Near Eden NSW

Discover a secluded and peaceful riverside escape at Kiah Wilderness Camp, a privately-run camping experience located on a stunning 65-acre property right on the banks of the beautiful Kiah (Towamba) River. Situated just a short drive south of Eden on the NSW Sapphire Coast, this camp offers a tranquil alternative to busy caravan parks, ideal for those seeking nature, privacy, and direct water access for fishing and paddling.

This is not a traditional caravan park but rather a nature-based campground, often booked via platforms like Hipcamp, and run by the operators of the on-site Kiah Wilderness Tours. The camp provides a limited number of spacious, grassy sites, allowing campers to spread out and enjoy the serene environment. It’s a perfect base for exploring the Kiah River, renowned for its pristine waters, abundant birdlife (like sea eagles and kingfishers), and excellent fishing.

Access is excellent, located just off the Princes Highway via a sealed road, with good internal access for suitable vehicles. The sites are grassy and best suited for tents, swags, camper trailers, and small-to-medium-sized motorhomes or caravans (one site lists a 7m vehicle limit). It is not designed for big rigs.

Facilities vary by site. Generally, sites are unpowered, but potable drinking water taps are available. One of the main sites offers a private composting toilet, while other sites may require campers to be fully self-contained with their own portable toilet system. Showers are not provided. Campfires are a major drawcard and are permitted in designated fire pits, subject to seasonal fire restrictions (always check RFS rules and Total Fire Bans). Well-behaved pets are also welcome with prior approval, making it a fantastic option for those travelling with a dog.

Given its location, the camp is an exceptional launchpad for water activities. You can bring your own kayak or canoe or hire one from the on-site tour operators. The historic Davidson Whaling Station Historic Site is just across the river, and the full services, attractions, and beaches of Eden are only 10-15 minutes away by car.
