Flour Bag Reserve, Kevington

★★★★☆ (4.0/5)
Flour Bag Reserve is a charming and easily accessible free campground situated in the Upper Goulburn Historic Area, offering a fantastic riverside escape for campers. Located just south of the historic Kevington Hotel on the Mansfield-Woods Point Road, this spot is one of many delightful reserves that line the Goulburn River, each with its own unique character. Flour Bag Reserve is a relatively small but well-loved site, featuring a flat, grassy area that provides direct access to the clear waters of the river. Its size makes it ideal for tent-based camping and smaller camper trailers, creating a more intimate atmosphere than some of the larger reserves nearby. The surrounding native bush provides a beautiful backdrop and a sense of seclusion, despite its convenient location right off the main tourist route.

This campground is perfect for those who enjoy water-based activities. The river here is fantastic for a summer swim, a spot of fishing for the famed Goulburn River trout, or simply relaxing by the water’s edge. As a state forest reserve, it is pet-friendly, allowing you to bring your furry companions along for the adventure. The site includes the essential convenience of a non-flush toilet, a welcome feature for a free camp. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, however, as there is no drinking water or rubbish disposal facilities on site. A strict ‘leave no trace’ ethic is essential to preserve the beauty of this location. Fires are generally permitted in existing fire pits but are always subject to local fire restrictions and Total Fire Ban days, so bringing your own firewood is a must. Its combination of easy access, lovely riverside setting, and proximity to other historical and natural attractions makes Flour Bag Reserve a wonderful choice for a weekend getaway in the Victorian High Country.
