Donation Camp Rocky Creek – Walkamin

The Donation Camp at Rocky Creek is a cherished community-run camping area located in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands. Renowned among the travelling community, this site operates on the goodwill of its visitors, with an honesty box system for donations to help with its upkeep. The camp is situated right next to the historic Rocky Creek World War II Memorial Park, which commemorates the largest military hospital in the Southern Hemisphere, adding a layer of historical significance to any stay. The campsite itself is a large, open, grassy area offering ample space for a significant number of self-contained caravans, motorhomes, and campervans. While there are no powered sites, the camp provides essential amenities, including flushing toilets and cold showers, which are a major drawcard for a donation-based camp. The atmosphere is typically friendly and communal, with travellers often sharing stories and tips about the region. Its central location makes it an exceptional base for exploring the rich attractions of the Tablelands, from the waterfalls of the Millaa Millaa circuit to the food trails around Atherton and the unique geology of the Curtain Fig Tree. The camp is managed by the local Lions Club, and all donations go directly towards maintaining the facilities and grounds. It embodies a spirit of community and trust, offering a comfortable and incredibly affordable way to experience one of Queensland’s most beautiful regions.
