Beggs Bend (River Murray Reserve)
Relaxed Riverfront Camping in the Mallee
Beggs Bend is a spacious and popular bush camping area located on the Victorian banks of the Murray River in Tol Tol, approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Robinvale. Situated within the River Murray Reserve, this site is a favourite for campers seeking wide open spaces, excellent river access, and a classic Mallee bush setting. The area is characterised by its sandy soil, towering Black Box and River Red Gum trees, and a sweeping bend in the river that provides calm water for recreation.
The camping area features numerous dispersed sites scattered along the riverbank and into the bushland. There are no marked bays, giving you the freedom to set up camp where you please, whether that’s right on the water’s edge to watch the paddle steamers or further back for shelter. The ground is generally flat and sandy-loam, making it suitable for swags, tents, camper trailers, and off-road caravans. The site is large enough to accommodate groups without feeling overcrowded, and the high banks offer great vantage points for fishing.
As a free bush camping site managed by Parks Victoria, there are no facilities at Beggs Bend. There are no toilets, showers, or tap water available. Visitors must be completely self-sufficient, bringing their own portable toilet, water, and power supplies. This “leave no trace” philosophy is essential to protect the environment. Access is via unsealed tracks off the Murray Valley Highway (Kulwin Road/Tol Tol Road), which are generally accessible by 2WD vehicles in dry weather. However, the tracks can become slippery and boggy after rain, so checking conditions is recommended.
Beggs Bend is strategically located for exploring the Robinvale-Euston region. You are just a short 15-20 minute drive from the town amenities, including supermarkets, pubs, and fuel. Nearby attractions include the Bumbang Island Historical Reserve and the impressive Robinvale-Euston Bridge. Whether you are an angler chasing Murray Cod, a family enjoying a weekend on the water, or a traveller looking for a quiet stopover, Beggs Bend offers a peaceful and authentic Murray River experience.
