Banksia Green Campground – Myall Lakes National Park
For campers who love the spectacular location of Mungo Brush but prefer a quieter, more rustic setting, Banksia Green campground is the perfect alternative. Tucked away in a beautiful, sheltered clearing just behind its larger neighbour, this small and charming campground offers a more intimate and back-to-basics bush experience in the heart of Myall Lakes National Park. The campground is set amongst a lovely forest of coastal banksias and paperbarks, providing a peaceful atmosphere for the handful of unpowered sites, which are ideal for self-sufficient campers with tents and small camper trailers.
Despite its secluded feel, Banksia Green enjoys the same incredible dual water access as Mungo Brush. A short walk in one direction leads to the calm, tannin-stained waters of the Myall River, perfect for launching a kayak or casting a line for fish. A short walk in the other direction takes you over the dunes to the magnificent, crashing surf of the Pacific Ocean, a stunning stretch of beach for swimming, surfing, and long walks. This is a classic, self-reliant camping experience with basic facilities limited to non-flush toilets and wood barbecues. Campers must book in advance and arrive fully prepared with their own drinking water and firewood, and must take all rubbish out with them. The campground is a haven for wildlife, with goannas and wallabies often seen wandering through the sites. For a peaceful, simple, and beautifully located bush-and-beach escape, Banksia Green is a delightful choice.
