Bungonia Campground – Bungonia National Park

Prepare for an adventure into a dramatic and ancient landscape at Bungonia Campground, the gateway to the spectacular limestone chasms of Bungonia National Park. Often referred to as the ‘Grand Canyon’ of New South Wales, this park is a world-renowned destination for adventure sports, and the campground serves as the bustling basecamp for it all. Set in a peaceful, grassy clearing surrounded by native bushland, this well-facilitated campground is the perfect spot for cavers, canyoners, rock climbers, and hikers to rest and prepare for their exploits. The atmosphere is one of shared excitement, as campers from all over come to test their skills against the park’s famous challenges.

For those who prefer to keep their feet on solid ground, the park offers a breathtaking network of walking tracks. The various lookouts provide jaw-dropping views into the depths of the 300-metre deep Bungonia Slot Canyon. The popular Green Track offers a challenging but rewarding circuit through the gorge and along Bungonia Creek. The campground itself is remarkably well-equipped for a national park, boasting the welcome comfort of hot showers and flush toilets, making it a very comfortable place to return to after a strenuous day. The unpowered sites are suitable for tents, camper trailers, and small caravans. As a self-sufficient site, you must book in advance and bring your own drinking water and firewood. Surrounded by abundant wildlife, including kangaroos, wombats, and peregrine falcons, Bungonia Campground delivers a memorable and action-packed experience for any nature and adventure lover.
