Warroo Bridge Campground – St George QLD Free Camp

The Warroo Bridge Campground is a fantastic free bush camp that offers travellers a classic slice of Queensland’s Balonne River country. Located a short drive north of St George, this spacious and peaceful site is spread along the banks of the river, providing a beautiful and serene setting for a relaxing stopover. The campground is a large, open, and relatively level area, allowing plenty of room for all types of vehicles, from big rigs to smaller campervans, to find a comfortable spot. Whether you prefer a prime position with direct river views or a more secluded spot back amongst the trees, there is ample space to unwind and enjoy the tranquility. The camp is particularly popular with those who appreciate nature, as the river environment attracts a wide variety of birdlife, and the sunrises and sunsets over the water can be truly stunning.

This is a primitive campground, so it’s essential that visitors are fully self-contained. There are no facilities such as toilets, showers, or rubbish bins, so campers must bring everything they need and adhere to strict ‘leave no trace’ principles to keep the area pristine for future visitors. The Balonne River is the main attraction, offering excellent opportunities for fishing, with Murray Cod and Yellowbelly being the most sought-after catches. It’s also a great spot for kayaking, canoeing, or simply sitting by the water’s edge with a good book. Its convenient location just off the main highway makes it an easily accessible overnight stop, while its proximity to the major regional hub of St George means that supplies, fuel, and town amenities are only a short drive away. For a peaceful, self-sufficient riverside experience, the Warroo Bridge Campground is an excellent choice.
