Situated in the Graytown section of the park, the campground is a spacious, open clearing surrounded by native woodland, providing a peaceful environment for wildlife watching, bushwalking, and relaxing under the stars. The park is renowned for its significant box-ironbark forests, rich birdlife, and relics of the region’s gold rush past, all of which are right on your doorstep when you camp at Toponga.The campsite provides a rustic experience and is best suited for self-sufficient campers. While facilities are basic, they include the essentials of non-flush toilets, picnic tables, and wood fireplaces, making it a comfortable base for exploration. Access is via unsealed park roads, which are generally manageable for 2WD vehicles in dry conditions, but can become slippery and challenging after rain. The campground is suitable for tents, camper trailers, and small to medium caravans that can handle dirt tracks. Unusually for a national park, dogs are permitted on a leash within this specific section of the park, making it a great option for those who travel with their pets. Campers must bring their own drinking water and take all rubbish home. Firewood collection within the park is prohibited, so you must bring your own supply for the fireplaces. For a quiet, authentic bush camp surrounded by nature and history, Toponga Campground is a fantastic choice.
