Mount Clear Campground, ACT – Remote Namadgi NP Camping

Mount Clear Campground, ACT – Remote Namadgi NP Camping

Escape to the most remote campground in the ACT at Mount Clear, nestled deep in the southern end of Namadgi National Park. This is a true bush camping experience for the self-sufficient visitor, offering unparalleled peace and a chance to disconnect. Located about 45 kilometres south of the Namadgi Visitor Centre, the journey itself is part of the adventure, traversing the scenic Boboyan Road which turns from sealed to unsealed. While a 2WD vehicle can *generally* access the campground in dry weather, 4WD is strongly recommended, especially after rain or during winter when road closures can occur.

This campground is exclusively for tent-based camping (including swags) and is explicitly unsuitable for caravans or camper trailers. The remote, grassy clearing provides a handful of unallocated sites, basic drop toilets, picnic tables, and designated fire pits. It’s a return to traditional camping, where simplicity is the main attraction. The site also serves as a gateway to the historic Mount Clear Pound, which can be booked for horse riding camps, and is a key access point for several walking tracks, including the Mt Clear to Brayshaws Hut walk and the Settlers Track, which explores the region’s European heritage.

Be prepared to be fully self-reliant. Bookings are essential and fees apply per person. There is no potable water; an untreated rainwater tank exists, but all water must be boiled or treated before use. It is mandatory to bring your own drinking water. Furthermore, generators and pets are strictly prohibited to maintain the park’s tranquility and protect native wildlife. All rubbish must be taken with you, and you must bring your own firewood, as collecting timber is not allowed. With no mobile reception, it’s the perfect opportunity for a digital detox in a stunning high-country environment.
